Home Remedies for Pest Control

There are a lot of different home remedies for pest control. Calling a professional pest control service can be extremely expensive. If you are on a tight budget and want to rid your home of pests once and for all, there are affordable options available. The first step in pest control is figuring out what kind of pest that your home is infested with. It is truly never been easier to get rid of pests without paying an arm and leg for professional pest control services. However, not all home remedies are effective if the infestation has gotten out of control.

What Type of Pest is Bugging You?
It can be difficult to tell the difference between pest bites because many of the bites resemble one another. Bed bug bites and flea bites look very similar in appearance, but have small distinctions that can help you determine which pest is biting you. Bed bugs are small pests that thrive in warm dark areas. They are nocturnal bugs that suck the blood out of their host. A bed bug can live an entire year without ever eating. Bed bugs can populate at a staggering rate. The bites from a bed bug resemble a flea bite, but have a blistery appearance.

How to Locate Pests
Flea bites are small or medium sized red bumps that itch. Fleas can live in carpets and in furniture. It is difficult to get rid of both of these pests. The first step in figuring out which type of pest you are plagued with is to put a large bowl of warm water under the bed or nightstand that is filled with approximately two to three tablespoons of dish liquid. Make sure that you mix the contents thoroughly. Leave the bowl under the bed for at least twenty four to thirty six hours. The pests will be drawn to the warm bowl of dish liquid. Once they die in the bowl, you will be able to tell what type of pest that you have.

Natural Home Remedies for Pest Control
Once you figure out what pest control you need, you are ready to get rid of pests for good. Clove oil mixed with approximately one quart of hot water can be used for pest control. The mixture of clove oil and hot water will repel both bed bugs and fleas. Spray carpets, furniture, bedding, and even the baseboards around your home. It is possible for pests to thrive in these areas as well.

Affordable Home Remedy for All Pests
Another home remedy for pest control is to pour Borax around the edges of your home. This will prevent any further invasion of pests. Borax can also be used to sprinkle on carpets and bedding to kill both fleas and bed bugs. Chalk has also been known to prevent ants from entering an area. Home owners simply need to draw a small line of chalk were ants are present.  There are lots of products under the kitchen sink that can help control pests.
